North Carolina LB Malaki Hamrick enters NCAA transfer portal

North Carolina linebacker Malaki Hamrick entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. He spent three years with the Tar Heels.
Hamrick played 17 games over the course of three seasons, but 12 of them came as a freshman. He totaled 11 tackles during his time with North Carolina.
As a member of the Class of 2022, Hamrick was a four-star recruit out of Shelby (N.C.) High, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 5 overall prospect in the state, the No. 18 linebacker in the class and the No. 196 overall prospect in the class.

Hamrick entered the portal on the same day North Carolina landed another LB via transfer. Missouri linebacker Mikai Gbayor committed Wednesday.

Gbayor was a starter for Nebraska prior to his transfer in December to Missouri and totaled 73 tackles, three pass breakups and 1.5 sacks across two seasons. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
During the 2024 season, he played in all 12 regular season games for Nebraska and totaled 49 total tackles (20 solo), a sack, three PBU’s two fumble recoveries.
Before college, the Irvington, NJ native was a three-star recruit out of the 2021 recruiting class, per the On3 Industry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.
