Rece Davis calls the idea of Bill Belichick never coaching at UNC 'preposterous'

The spotlight has been on Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels. Amid some rising controversies and a buyout that’s soon set to drop, some people have even suggested that he may never coach a game at UNC.
Despite those suggestions, ESPN’s Rece Davis thinks the idea that Bill Belichick won’t coach at North Carolina is preposterous. As he explained on the College GameDay Podcast, his opinion stems from his own personal conversations.
“I’ve been wrong before,” Rece Davis said. “Not gonna sit here and go at another reporter and say that their sources are no good, they don’t know. I will say this. From my interactions, from my talks, both on camera and off, this notion that it’s even a remote possibility that somehow he wouldn’t coach seems preposterous to me.”
The buyout in Belichick’s contract is unique. It drops from $10 million to $1 million this summer before a game is even played. That makes it relatively easy to part ways and was likely put in place in case of an NFL opening. However, now it’s led to many raised eyebrows. Pablo Torre is among those who have brought up the buyout as a way to possibly go their own ways and avoid any further public relations issues.
“All of this seems to be offseason fodder,” Davis said. “Because of the magnitude of who he is, more than anything else.”
On the field, Belichick has a sterling reputation. With six Super Bowls as the head coach of the New England Patriots, he left the NFL with a career record of 302-165 and 31-13 in the playoffs. Still, this is his first college job, and that’s a unique and different environment.

Much of the criticism of Belichick and the North Carolina program comes from his relationship with Jordon Hudson. She has reportedly become his de facto agent and, despite Belichick himself shutting down concerns about how involved she is within the program, how active she is in communications for the program has become the subject of much controversy.
Bill Belichick reaffirms Jordon Hudson has no role at North Carolina
Looking to clarify the role Jordon Hudson has, Bill Belichick recently shared that she doesn’t work within the North Carolina program at all. Instead, she helps him with his personal business matters.
“Well, nothing with North Carolina. That would be number one. It would be personal opportunities. Could be a speaking thing. It could be an appearance on this or talk about that, or somebody wants whatever it happens to be, an autograph or that type of thing. So, she’d kind of help organize that for me,” Belichick said.
“One of the first things that came out was when North Carolina sent me emails. Saying like these people want to talk to you, these people want to talk to you, these people want to talk to you, these people want to talk to you, I sent back an email, can you please copy Jordon on these requests? So, she could at least filter through them because there was nobody. We didn’t have a Sports Information Director. That was taken, because all emails are shared publicly, that was taken as Jordan’s running the Sports Information Department. That also led to the narrative, which is like totally — she’s not doing it. I mean, there was nobody to help me sort them out, so I was asking her to do it.”
