Seth Trimble injury update: North Carolina announces broken forearm, surgery for senior guard

North Carolina’s Seth Trimble has had a good start to his senior year through two games, including his effort in Friday night’s win. However, after an injury on Sunday, his season is now suddenly on hold.
In a release shared on Sunday evening, UNC revealed that Trimble suffered a broken bone in his left forearm during workouts today. He will now undergo surgery, with no timetable for his return until that procedure is complete.
“Seth Trimble suffered a broken bone in his left forearm in a team workout on Sunday afternoon. He will undergo surgery this week,” the release read out of Chapel Hill. “The exact length of his absence from the lineup will be better known following the surgery.”
“So sad for Seth,” Hubert Davis said in the statement. “He’s such a great kid and teammate and has worked so hard for his senior year. He loves being a Tar Heel and we love him. The good news is he will be back at some point this year, and I know he will continue to be a great leader for us until he can get back in the lineup.”

Trimble was the key returner for this year’s team at North Carolina. That had played out over the first week of this season, with him averaging 14.5 points (44% FG), 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.0 steals per game through the 2-0 start for UNC. That includes 17 points, eight rebounds, and three assists for Trimble in the 87-74 win for No. 25 North Carolina over No. 19 Kansas on Friday night at the Dean Dome.
With him out of the lineup for the foreseeable future, North Carolina will have no one in the rotation, namely in the backcourt, who has ever played significant minutes before. Replacing him will start with names like Kyan Evans (13.5 points (52.6% FG, 42.9% 3PT on 3.0 makes), 4.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals per game) as well as extended minutes and opportunities for players at the guard spots like Luka Bogavac, Jaydon Young, Jonathan Powell, or Derek Dixon.
This is anything but ideal for North Carolina, with the Tar Heels now set to be without their most experienced player and a team captain for what could be a while depending on his surgery and what his recovery looks like after it. These are now the circumstances for UNC, though, with their next biggest non-conference games at least not being for another three weeks or so, after the significant injury today to Trimble.
