Will Compton claims 'where there's smoke, there's fire' on Bill Belichick reports about future at North Carolina

A lot of reporting came out of Chapel Hill yesterday regarding the future of Bill Belichick already at North Carolina. Those have since been disputed by Belichick and the program, but the reports still remain out there.
On their weekly appearance on ‘Get Up’ on Thursday, Will Compton and Taylor Lewan of ‘Bussin’ With The Boys’ were asked about Belichick’s circumstances. Compton thinks there’s clearly something going on, especially considering the early-season, on-field results for the Tar Heels, while Lewan more so referenced the off-field matters as to why this isn’t working.
“I think, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. There seems to be a lot of smoke,” Compton said. “People had so many questions of how this would work out with Bill Belichick at North Carolina. I think those question marks are not only getting loud, but it seems like, seems fair to say they’re starting to get validated.”
“Yeah, just watching the dominos falling through this process? He has the ending in his career he does with the Patriots,” Lewan weighed in. “Then there’s the ring camera saga, then he gets a young girlfriend, he’s doing cheerleading poses at the beach with. It’s been a distraction after distraction after distraction. And then they pull him in to North Carolina and you hear, you watch the behind-the-scenes of this type of interview that they do.”It’s like, if it walks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, it seems to be a duck.”
ESPN’s Pete Thamel came on to set up the segment with his latest reporting on the possible, reported exit for Belichick. Adam Schefter and Dan Orlovsky were also at the desk and, with even more of a lens on it from the pro perspective, explained how his move from the NFL to the NCAA is feeling like a career-ender.

“Listen, there’s a lot of chatter out there right now. And, I’ve been told, again, that they don’t believe that, what’s floating around out there…I think that we’re talking about a lot of different things here,” Schefter said. “Versus Power Four teams, they’re 0-3. They’ve been outscored by 87 points. They’ve been out-gained by 687 yards. They’re missing talent, and we can talk about all of these things. But, the fact of the matter is, I think it’s Bill Belichick coming in, Mike Lombardi coming in adjusting to a new environment, tried to procure talent. There’s not a lot of talent there, and it takes time – if they get that time, if they want that time – to make these things happen.”
Reporting of an exit strategy, in relation to Belichick’s buyout, began to emerge yesterday, amidst the 2-3 start to the tenure for Belichick at North Carolina. That’s following the issues on the field coming out of another blowout loss to Clemson on Saturday, but also off the field, as, entering a second bye in three weeks. The Tar Heels have had reports come out about the inside of their program, and an assistant coach has since been suspended separately as well while a documentary following their season was also cancelled. All in all, it’s just not going well five weeks into Belichick’s first season, with some wondering if it should also be his last in college football.
There are still seven games to play over the next month and a half, with Belichick sounding as though he’ll still be the head coach for those at UNC. Still, as said by Compton, there’s clearly smoke here coming out of Chapel Hill, with that maybe suggesting another coaching search could be coming by this offseason at North Carolina.
