Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparral five-star defensive lineman Anthony Lucas is one of the best uncommitted players in the country.

The imposing defensive lineman has been chipping away at visiting his top schools this fall and yesterday made a visit to South Bend, Ind., for the Notre DameUSC game.

His father Jacques Lucas told 247 Sports they really enjoyed their visit and attendance at a signature rivalry game.

“It was awesome,” Jacques Lucas said. “The stadium was packed, the fans were into the game and the team was in control the entire time. It was nice to see some of the coaches and staff again.”

He also added what makes the Fighting Irish program stand out in his mind.

“The tight brotherhood among the players, the environment the coaching staff creates and the great academics,” Jacques Lucas said. “This (visit) will definitely help.”

Anthony Lucas is down to about 8 schools

The top eight for Anthony Lucas is composed of AlabamaLSUMiamiNotre DameOregonTexas A&MUCLA, and USC.

The No. 13 overall recruit in the 2022 On300 rankings would become the top-rated recruit in each school’s class except USC if he committed today. But Lucas is not making a decision today. He is still in the middle of his process. He has now made five trips for games this season to UCLA, Miami, Texas A&M, LSU and Notre Dame.

His final planned visit of the season will come on Nov. 6 when he goes to Alabama to watch the Crimson Tide take on LSU.

Anthony Lucas told On3’s Chad Simmons he doesn’t know how soon after that game he will make a decision.

“Each of these visits means a lot to me,” Lucas said. “I have learned a lot about the schools already, so I want to see the game-day atmosphere and see how I feel there.”
