Brian Hartline, Cardale Jones call out Adam Schefter for tasteless Dwayne Haskins tweet

Tragedy befell the football world on Saturday, as former Ohio State star quarterback Dwayne Haskins was killed in a vehicular accident. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Haskins was hit by a car in South Florida, as he was preparing for another NFL season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In a since deleted announcement, Schefter’s poor wording of the heartbreaking accident caused an uproar. Originally, Schefter prefaced his announcement with words about Haskins struggling to catch on with the Washington Football Team and Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL. Then, the ESPN analyst revealed the shocking news.
Many took issue with the wording, including former NFL wide receiver and current Ohio State offensive assistant Brian Hartline. Responding to Schefter’s tweet, Hartline viciously went after the way the ESPN analyst announced the tragedy.
“You just can’t help to be a (clown) sometimes huh,” tweeted Hartline. “A son, teammate and significant other was lost and that’s what you have to say.”
Hartline wasn’t the only person miffed by the wording, as multiple accounts immediately went after Schefter for the tweet. Since, Schefter has deleted the tweet and written a new one, instead stating the highlights of Haskins’ career first.
“Dwayne Haskins, a standout at Ohio State before becoming Washington’s first-round pick and playing in Pittsburgh, died this morning when he got hit by a car in South Florida, per his agent Cedric Saunders,” wrote Schefter. “Haskins would have turned 25 years old on May 3.”
Nevertheless, it’s better — but it’s the tweet Adam Schefter should’ve put out in the beginning.
In addition to Hartline, former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones also took issue with Schefter’s announcement.
“How about ‘Dwayne Haskins, son, husband, buckeye brother, friend, beloved teammate has passed away.’ TF his career ups and downs have to do with him unfortunately losing his life STFU! Let his family & friends grieve instead of throwing shade. Praying for the Haskins family!!” tweeted Jones.

It’s easy to see why Brian Hartline, Cardale Jones and others were rightfully angered by Schefter’s original announcement.
Dwayne Haskins, former Ohio State star, NFL quarterback, dead at 24
Dwayne Haskins captured the hearts of Ohio State fans throughout his time in Columbus. The star quarterback led the Buckeyes to tremendous success, including capping his collegiate career with a victory in the Rose Bowl.
Afterwards, Haskins was drafted by the Washington Redskins with the No. 15 overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Highland Park, New Jersey native had his moments with the franchise, but the team went in a different direction following the 2020 season.
Since, Haskins has been a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mike Tomlin was impressed with the young man, and Haskins was ready to battle Mitchell Trubisky, Mason Rudolph and a possible rookie quarterback for the starting job. His career was turning around, and Haskins seemed more motivated than ever to turn his doubters into supporters.
The heartbreak will linger, and Dwayne Haskins won’t be forgotten by football fans around the world. The collective football world is sending prayers to his family.
