The Ohio State Buckeyes have reportedly made a major change to the school’s baseball coaching staff, as D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers reports that the team has parted ways with head coach Greg Beals.

Beals took over at Ohio State in 2011.

“COACHING SCOOP: @OhioStateBASE has parted ways with long-time head coach Greg Beals, sources tell @d1baseball,” Rogers tweeted. “Beals spent the last 12 seasons with the #Buckeyes and guided them to three NCAA appearances. His high-water mark was a 44-win campaign in 2016.”

Prior to coming to Ohio State, Beals coached from 2003-2010 at Ball State. There, he coached to an overall record of 242-202 and led the Cardinals to one regional appearance.

Since taking over the Buckeyes program, he made three regional appearances, coming in 2016, 2018, and 2019. In his 12 years at Ohio State, Beals coached to a 345-288-1 record and a 141-139 mark against Big Ten opponents.

Ohio State finished the regular season 21-30 overall and 8-14 in conference games this season. The Buckeyes failed to qualify for this year’s Big Ten Tournament, even after ending the year on a high note with four wins in their final five games.

Beal’s best season with the Buckeyes came in 2016, as he led the team to 44 wins overall and 15 wins in the Big Ten. Ohio State also won 36 games in each of its other two regional appearances.

Ohio State won one game in 2016 in the Louisville Regional, and the Buckeyes also picked up one victory in the Nashville Regional in 2019. The Buckeyes failed to pick up a victory in 2018 in the Greenville Regional.

Now, Ohio State will be looking for a new face to lead its baseball program. Beals had a long run as the leader of the Buckeyes, but the team is now moving forward in a new direction.
