Ryan Day comments on NFL rumors, speculation about job status
As if the coaching carousel could get any crazier, Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day has been thrown into the rumor mill. He’s been linked taking a job with the Chicago Bears and reconnecting with quarterback Justin Fields.
Day had the opportunity to address the rumors during his press conference on Wednesday. He quickly shut everything down, saying he was going to be staying in Colombs.
“There’s no truth to it,” Day said. “I love Ohio State and I love being the head coach at Ohio State.”
The Chicago Bears could be looking to move on from head coach Matt Nagy at the end of the season. Day would be the prime candidate to help run an offensive with Fields at quarterback. With the NFL season extending into January, there would be no moment until then.
However, ever since taking over for Urban Meyer, Day has done an excellent job keeping the Ohio State program at the level it expects to be at. He’s appeared in two College Football Playoffs and made the national championship during the 2020 season.

Although results for the year were not as wanted, Day’s ability has already been proven to be one that can lead a successful program. Getting calls from the NFL shows how impressive of a coach that calls Colombus home is.
Ryan Day talks about finding energy for Rose Bowl
Even if Day does end up somehow moving to the NFL, he will still have one more game to focus on as the Ohio State head coach. The Buckeyes face off against the Utah Utes in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1.
Day was asked how his team will find energy after not only missing out on the Big Ten Championship but losing to bitter rivals Michigan for the first time in a decade. The head coach said Ohio State is excited for the matchup and want to end the year on a positive note.
“I think a lot of our guys have a lot of pride in themselves and a lot of pride in this team,” Day said. “There’s been a lot of hard work and a lot of progress that was made all year from when we started this thing. We want to finish this thing the right way. We have a really good opponent in Utah, great bowl in the Rose Bowl, and so we want to have a great month.”
