Former Ohio State legend Maurice Clarett is quite active on his Twitter account. Yesterday, he let gave college football fans across the country an update on his current relationship with the Ohio State athletic department on his Twitter page.

Clarett claimed on his Twitter page that he was joking “with a splash of truth”. He also noted how college football fans across the country love him everywhere he goes.

It sounds like he was disappointed how Ohio State took his picture down all over the walls in the Woody Hayes facility.

He’s got a legitimate point there. All Clarett did was carry the Buckeyes on his back to the 2002 National Championship in a heart-stopping 31-24 double overtime victory over the Miami Hurricanes. Not only was he one of the greatest Ohio State players ever, but college football in general. He had 222 carries for 1,237 rushing yards, while racking up 16 rushing touchdowns on the ground.

There’s no question Ohio State wouldn’t have come remotely close to the national championship that season without his incredible play. Clarett made a number of incredible plays during his freshman season in Columbus.

Perhaps his most iconic play came when he snatched the ball from former Miami legend Sean Taylor in the 2002 National Championship Game.

Buckeye quarterback Craig Krenzel threw an interception to Taylor, but Clarett chased him down and ripped the ball from him as he was going to the ground.

Check it out.

It was an incredible play and it’s even more impressive since he did it against Sean Taylor, one of the greatest safeties to ever play the game.

During his 2003 season for the Miami Hurricanes, he was named the Big East Defensive Player of the Year and was named a unanimous All-American. He led the nation in interceptions and set a Miami Hurricanes‘ record by returning three of them for touchdowns. He tragically passed away in 2007 and was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.

Former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett comeback

If you haven’t gotten to watch the ESPN 30 for 30: The Youngstown Boys, do yourself a favor and watch it. That will help to explain the story of Maurice Clarett much better than any small article. When he went to the Denver Broncos, he didn’t make it past training camp and was cut by the team, despite signing a four-year deal with the team.

In 2006, he was arrested for robbing two people at gunpoint in Columbus, Ohio. Clarett was sentenced to seven years in prison, but he only served three and a half years of jail time.

Since serving time in prison, Clarett has turned his life around. He has regular visits with a therapist and has plenty of inspirational words on his Twitter feed. There are plenty of articles that detail his life turnaround much more than I’ll be able to in this space.

His story is an inspirational one. Ohio State should have a much better relationship with them than they do.
