Ohio State soccer player Nathan Demian victim of off-campus shooting following game

Ohio State soccer player Nathan Demian was a victim of an off-campus shooting following Saturday’s game against Wake Forest. He is currently under care and with family, but his condition is unknown, per the statement released by the program.
Demian is a redshirt junior with the Buckeyes’ soccer program. He did not compete last season due to injury but played in 34 total games in his first two seasons.
“Following the Ohio State men’s soccer match with Wake Forest Saturday, redshirt junior Nathan Demian, from Vancouver, British Columbia, was a victim of an off-campus shooting,” the statement read. “He was an innocent bystander, is not a suspect in any way, and was not involved in any altercation. The soccer program is thankful for the incredible university support and medical care available to Nathan and his family during this difficult time. Nathan’s family is with him, and the team is extremely close.
“The family has asked that everyone keep Nathan in their prayers. The department will do all it can to support Nathan, his family and the men’s soccer program in every way possible. Because of the police investigation underway, the department will not be able to discuss the incident further.”

Columbus police said the incident occurred in the 200 block of the Chittenden Avenue east of campus, per NBC4. Police said the shooting happened just before 2:30 a.m. when two vehicles were chasing each other with a person in one vehicle shooting towards the other.
Hours before the shooting, Demian started for Ohio State and helped the No. 1 seeded Buckeyes win 3-0 over Wake Forest in the NCAA quarterfinals. Ohio State will play Marshall in the semifinals Friday.
