Coaches are out on the recruiting trail in January, and the staff at Ohio State is no exception. Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day and co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Brian Hartline visited Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin 2025 five-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench on Thursday.

Ffrench decommitted from Alabama earlier this month days after legendary head coach Nick Saban retired from his role with the Crimson Tide. He had been a part of Alabama’s 2025 class since June.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Ffrench is the nation’s No. 14 overall prospect and No. 3 wide receiver in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 2 recruit in Florida.

Ohio State’s No. 2 class

Ohio State’s 2025 recruiting class currently ranks No. 2 nationally in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings with six commitments.

Houston North Shore five-star cornerback Devin Sanchez leads the way, having pledged to the Buckeyes during the 2024 All-American Bowl. Bellefontaine (Ohio) four-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair ranks No. 20 overall and No. 4 among quarterbacks.

“[Tim Walton’s] probably one of the top defensive coaches out there, especially at the cornerback positon,” Sanchez told On3 when he committed. “He’s the only cornerbacks coach in college football that’s had 10-plus years in league as a defensive coordinator. You don’t know too many coaches who have that. He’s coached big-time guys, he’s got guys like Jalen Ramsey on his resume, and over the past two years you’ve seen what he’s done with Davis (Igbinosun) and (Denzel) Burke.”

Philadelphia Imhotep Institute top-60 EDGE Zahir Mathis, Baltimore St. Frances Academy top-75 cornerback Blake Woodby, Cocoa (Fla.) four-star wide receiver Jayvan Boggs and Akron (Ohio) Archbishop Hoban three-star linebacker Eli Lee are also all committed to Ohio State.
