Early in Ohio State‘s blowout win over Toldeo, running back TreVeyon Henderson left the game with what seemed to be a leg injury. He eventually emerged from the locker room in a walking boot and after the game, head coach Ryan Day said the move was precautionary.

Now, the Buckeyes have a different type of opponent on the schedule, beginning Big Ten play on Saturday. The Wisconsin Badgers will be in town and Henderson figures to be a huge part of the game plan for Day, if healthy.

Day provided an update on his star running back during Tuesday’s press conference, saying he expected Henderson to be available vs. Wisconsin. A major boost for the Ohio State offense before the conference showdown.

“Just a short-term thing,” Day said. “We’re expecting to have him for Saturday.”

Henderson has been nearly unstoppable for Ohio State this season, despite only having a major contribution in two games. In 29 carries, the running back has 197 yards and three touchdowns — good enough for the second most rushing yards on the team. Only Miyan Williams has more, going for 207 on 32 carries.

Wisconsin is already proving to have one of the best rush defenses in the country, giving up just 78 yards per game. Nobody has gotten past the Badgers in three games thus far. Henderson will be hoping to change that narrative with a big-time performance on Saturday.

Ryan Day provides TreVeyon Henderson update after Toldeo win

Immediately following the win over Toldeo, Day provided an update on Henderson. He had left the game after scoring a touchdown on the opening drive. The running back never returned to action and was sidelined the rest of the game.

Day said how the Buckeyes dealt with the injury is nothing new for the Buckeyes. Everything was done out of an “abundance of caution” and only would have reinserted Henderson had he been 100%.

“This was a situation with a lot of those guys that we just wanted to have, in the abundance of caution, and make sure that they were 100 percent before we put them in the game,” Day said of Henderson.

Henderson had four carries against the Rockets, going for 19 yards and a touchdown.
