Urban Meyer predicts if Ohio State will repeat as national champions

Ohio State rolls on as the No. 1 team in the country heading into Week 6. They’ve looked every bit of the part along the way.
To former Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer, Ohio State looks as though its poised for another national championship run in 2025 — making that back to back titles for Ryan Day and company. Meyer had high praise for Day and his program on Wednesday while discussing the matter on The Triple Option podcast.
“What he’s done is — it’s his best coaching job,” Meyer said. “I mean, you replace two coordinators, replace the quarterback. Their defense is elite. To go on the road and hold that quarterback, Demond Williams Jr., the way they contained him. I love that player. So absolutely they can (win the national championship).”
Ohio State held Williams to 173 yards passing and was sacked six times by the Buckeyes defensive front. They held Washington to 61 total yards, including 2.0 yards per carry on the day. The Huskies currently boast the sixth-best rushing attack in the Big Ten with 210.3 yards per game.
It continues an elite defensive season for the Ohio State defense. They’re currently ranked second in the conference behind Indiana giving up 229.3 yards per game. Giving up just 132 yards per game through the air, the Buckeyes have kept opposing offenses out of the end zone all season.

As it stands, Ohio State hasn’t given up more than one touchdown per game across four instances. They’re currently outscoring teams 145-22 on the early season.
To Meyer, the Buckeyes stand tall above all else so far on the season. He also predicted who he sees matching up against Ohio State in the final game.
“I think it’s going to be Oregon (versus) Ohio State. They’re going to play twice,” Meyer continued. “They’re going to play in Indianapolis, and they’re going to play in the College Football Playoff. I think the winner — I still don’t see that team in the SEC yet. To me, Oregon and Ohio State look a little bit different than everyone else, and obviously, like you said, it’s so early.”
The Buckeyes and Ducks avoid each other during the regular season, but two matchups during the post season could be a reality. For now, both teams are undefeated and look poised for a deep run in the College Football Playoff at the end of the season.
