Will Howard injury update: Ryan Day reveals Ohio State QB's status entering College Football Playoff

By the end of the season, nobody is entirely healthy. Certainly, Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Will Howard has been included in that group of players who aren’t injured but aren’t as healthy as they were at the start of the season.
In the lead-up to Ohio State’s College Football Playoff game, head coach Ryan Day was asked about Will Howard’s health and whether or not it had an impact on his play during the loss to Michigan to end the regular season.
“He’s doing great,” Ryan Day said. “He’s had a good couple weeks of practice. He’s ready to go. I know he wants to, just like all of us, move on and focus on Tennessee. There’s certainly plays that he’ll wanna have back on in that game, but one thing about Will is, he’s got a very positive mindset and he’s very resilient.”
Ohio State had some massive issues on the offensive side of the ball against Michigan, only scoring 10 points in the loss and not scoring at all in the second half. For his part, Will Howard had two costly interceptions in the loss. At one point in that first half, he appeared to get banged up but was able to play through those issues in the second half. After the game, Ryan Day shared that doctors said he was fine to play at the time.

Since the loss to Michigan cost Ohio State a trip to the Big Ten Championship Game, the Buckeyes have now had three weeks off to get healthy and prepare for the Playoff. For a team with a banged up quarterback, it was a silver lining to another frustrating loss to their biggest rival.
“You can see he’s got a bounce in a step right now. He wants to get back on the field as fast as he possibly can. You can see that,” Day said. “And he wants to lead this offense, and it’s gonna be a very important part of this game on Saturday night is his leadership. And he’ll be ready to go.”
Despite those struggles, Ryan Day is confident that Will Howard is going to be ready to go for Ohio State’s home Playoff game against the Tennessee Volunteers. That game is scheduled to kickoff at 8:00 p.m. EST in Columbus.
