With all the coaching moves this season, a lot of recruits have been affected. Winter Garden (Fla.) West Orange wide receiver Jayden Gibson was one of those.

The 6-foot-5, 189-pound four-star is the No. 108 prospect in the On3 Consensus committed to Florida earlier this year, then after the coaching change in Gainesville, he re-opened his recruitment.

Oklahoma quickly hopped on the opportunity to recruit one of the top playmakers in the Sunshine State and it paid off.

“Right after I decommitted from Florida, coach Jeff Lebby got the offensive coordinator job at Oklahoma,” Gibson said. “He called me that same day, offered me, and wanted me to visit.

“I thought about visiting Baylor, South Carolina, Miami, and a couple of other schools, but I was interested Oklahoma, I liked what coach Lebby was saying, and I wanted to get out there.

“I went out there with an open mind, and I did not expect to make my decision this soon, but while I was on my visit, it became clear me, Oklahoma was the school.

“I’m excited about the opportunity at Oklahoma.”

Gibson will partner up with four-star quarterback Nick Evers in Norman. Just like Gibson, Evers was committed to Florida until the coaching change, and he committed to Brent Venables Monday.

The two will play together at Oklahoma.

“It is cool how it worked out that Nick and I will be together still. I don’t think either of us thought it would happen like this.

“He is a great quarterback and a cool guy, so it is a plus to have someone going there that I already know. I think we will be rooming together, so it is crazy how it worked out.”

Jayden Gibson is turning a negative into a postive

Gibson said this was not the plan. This definitely was not ideal for him. But he found a way to make a negative a positive.

“The end goal is the same for me, and that is how I am looking at it,” Gibson said. “I still have my shot to get to where I want to go. That will be on me.

“Oklahoma will put good players around me, great coaches will coach me, and it will be up to me to do the rest. It is not going to be at Florida anymore, but Oklahoma is a great school.

“I know I can still do big things and I am so grateful for the opportunity.”

We know Zebby loves to throw the ball and he is a very creative mind when it comes to offenses. Venables is a defensive-minded head coach and Gibson is excited about the combination of the two.

“Coach Venables is great. He is a cool coach, my parents loved him, and he has a lot of energy. Coach Lebby is awesome too. How he recruited me in such a short amount of time meant a lot.

“I like the coaches, the people, and the vibe in Norman. It is different for me, but I am excited about it.

“I didn’t know a lot about Oklahoma going into the visit, but I loved it, and I know it will be great for me.”
