Baker Mayfield focused on 2021 season: 'I don't give a damn'

Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield appears to be dialed in this season. In the last week, two of his peers received signed massive contract extensions. For Mayfield, who is in the final year of his rookie deal, his focus is on the season, not contract negotiations.
Mayfield’s teammate, running back Nick Chubb, signed a three-year, $36.6 million dollar deal. His draft-mate, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen signed a six-year, $258 million dollar deal, which is the second-largest contract in the NFL behind Patrick Mahomes.
Mayfield’s focused on the 2021 season
Despite massive contracts signed in the last week, Baker Mayfield is focused on the task at hand. The 2021 season.
“I’m worried about winning. The rest will take care of itself,” Mayfield told reporters Sunday when asked about Allen’s colossal contract. “I don’t have a timeline on it.”
Mayfield has kept this same energy all summer regarding his deal to come. Mayfield told reporters, in late July, “Everything will play itself out.”

The bar has now been set by Allen’s contract. When asked if he’d like to negotiate an extension before the 2021 campaign like Allen did, Mayfield told reporters, “I’m not doing the negotiation, so quite frankly, I don’t give a damn.”
Kevin Stefanski has high praise for Mayfield
Mayfield has made tremendous strides towards being the Browns franchise quarterback. Kevin Stefanski had nothing but praise for his signal-caller’s growth as a player and leader.
“I think he is the leader of the football team and he does a great job of that.” Stefanski told reporters. “That is always going be part of his gig as a quarterback. In terms of specific to the offense, he has great input. He and AVP (offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt) share a lot of ideas and myself included. That is always going to take place, but I would not say that the leadership in the offense is any different.”
