Brian Bosworth responds to Mike Gundy saying Bedlam used to be more of a rivalry

For the last time in a long time, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are going to meet on the football field. Bedlam truly is one of college football’s best rivalries but due to conference realignment, the matchup is going away. Nobody has been more vocal about his disappointment than Mike Gundy, even if he had some interesting comments on Monday.
Gundy said social media has ruined the rivalry before looking back on his playing days in Stillwater going up against Brian Bosworth.
“It didn’t bother me because we didn’t have social media, but it was a rivalry then,” Gundy said. “Like, [Brian] Bosworth spit in my face. I spit in his. It was actually a rivalry.”
Those comments were not taken too nicely by the Oklahoma linebacker, who responded in a passionate way. Bosworth suggests a pregame meeting at Boone Pickens Stadium on Saturday.
“Guess what Coach G,” Bosworth began via X. “Bedlam is still a rivalry & BIG BROTHER still wants to whip lil brother’s ass..How abOUt we meet this Saturday at yOUr place…let’s say the 50 yard line so we can exchange pleasantries the old fashion way..FACE TO FACE.. I’ll see yOU there..BOOMER!”
There is a history between the two respective program legends. Gundy was a quarterback at Oklahoma State while Bosworth was a famous linebacker for the Sooners. Their time in college only overlapped by one season, with both being on campus during the 1986 season. To no surprise, Oklahoma ended up on the right side with a 19-0 win.

Gundy claims there was more to the rivalry than just football, though. He reminisced on going out in Oklahoma City, wondering if he would run into Bosworth. And if he did, what would happen?
“The summer before my sophomore year, I would go to parties in Oklahoma City and they would say, ‘Well, Bosworth and [Paul] Migliazzo and some of those guys were here,’ and I had to make a decision were we gonna have confrontation there and who was with me? Because, those guys, I can kick them in the shin and run like hell, but I’m not dumb,” Gundy said. “So, we had to make those decisions because what kind of frame of mind was Brian gonna be in at that point? I don’t know. Had he taken a Vitamin C and had a few drinks? Well, he might not be a guy that you want to talk to at that point. He’d get real read across his face,” Gundy said.
“So, it was a rivalry then. Now, it’s not as much anymore, unfortunately, because of the way it is, but it’s a very important game.”
So maybe there is now an extra layer of intensity to Saturday’s final game between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State — not that it needed it. Those in attendance will have to be on the lookout for Bosworth and whether or not there is some kind of confrontation with Gundy.
