Elite tight end Davon Mitchell of Los Alamitos (CA) High announced his commitment to Oklahoma Saturday afternoon, and will reclassify to the 2024 class.

The 6-foot-5, 245 pounder chose the Sooners over Miami and Alabama.

Mitchell on why he chose Oklahoma

“To be honest everything stood out about Oklahoma. They are a great program academically and football. I had a lot of fun. I got to spend time with the coaches and sum of the other players. Honestly, I just love the coaching staff and the players. I feel like I have a great relationship with all of them.”

Relationship with coaching staff + their plan for him

“I’m most definitely close with coach Joe Jon Finley and he’s a great coach and person. They are going to use me wherever in the Oklahoma offense.”

The California tight end joins coach Brent Venables and the Sooners’ top 20 class in the 2024 team rankings. He is accompanied by four-star safety Jaydan Hardy, four-star wide receiver Zion Kearney, and others.

Mitchell ranks as the No. 29 player in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also tabs in as the No. 2 tight end and the No. 3 player in the state of California.

He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $110K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
