Davis Beville is now an Oklahoma Sooner, the former Pitt quarterback announced via social media Monday night. Beville joins UCF transfer Dillon Gabriel as the second quarterback to join new Sooners head coach Brent Venables in Norman for the 2022 college football season.

Beville served as Kenny Pickett‘s backup last season at Pitt and played in the Peach Bowl after Pickett opted out. In that game, he threw for 149 yards and a touchdown as the Panthers fell to Michigan State 31-21 on Dec. 31. He appeared in nine games for Pittsburgh, completing 22 of 32 passes for 237 yards and a touchdown in that time.

A former three-star recruit in 2019, Beville arrived at Pittsburgh as the No. 6 quarterback prospect from the state of South Carolina that year, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Beville was likely the heir apparent to Pickett this coming year, but the Panthers landed USC transfer Kedon Slovis in the transfer portal. Slovis threw for 2,153 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Trojans in 2021.

Brent Venables sends message to Oklahoma fans following spring game

After spending nearly two months going through spring practices, Oklahoma officially concluded its spring period on Saturday, April 23 with its annual spring game. Heading into Year One of the Brent Venables era in Norman, the Sooners seemed to have had a highly successful spring under the new head coach’s direction and have plenty of confidence heading into summer workouts.

While Venables has been fired up ever since the moment he arrived back in Norman to take over as the head football coach at OU, that display of energy and excitement are positive traits to have as Venables enters his first season as the Sooners’ primary leader – and it’s starting to be reflected by the team’s fan support.

As a record crowd of 75,360 showed up to Oklahoma Memorial Stadium to take in the Sooners’ spring game, Venables met with the media afterwards and sent a message to them for coming out and supporting his team.

“Not only just a lot of people here, but passionate – that’s what I noticed,” Venables said. “It was like a big game. To me, that’s what we want to create each and every time that we play in The Palace. That’s a decision. … That’s literally a decision, and we’ve got to give them a good product to support. But they’ve got to show up with the right mindset and enthusiasm and love for the very few opportunties that we get to do that.

“So, between the spring game and the actual season, you’ve got seven opportunties to pack The Palace and just make it a crazy atmosphere.”
