Oklahoma guard status for Big 12 showdown revealed

Oklahoma guard Marvin Johnson left Saturday’s showdown against Auburn with an injury. Now, Sooners coach Porter Moser revealed his status for Monday’s Big 12 matchup against TCU.
“Oklahoma’s Marvin Johnson (ankle) is OUT for tonight’s game against TCU, per Porter Moser,” tweeted CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein. “Averages 2.7 PPG.”
As the Sooners were looking to find a victory over the Tigers, Johnson limped off the court after missing a layup with about 12 minutes left in the first half.
Driving through an open lane, Johnson put up a layup that hit the bottom of the rim. On the way down, he landed awkwardly and limped into the first row of Auburn Arena. After being caught by some fans, referees blew the play dead — Johnson was clearly in pain.
“And a stoppage, as Marvin Johnson went into the first row,” stated the commentators.
Johnson limped his way to the Oklahoma bench, as the broadcast went to commercial. Then, he was seen being helped back to the locker room after the commercial break.
“Marvin Johnson got helped out after that injury under the basket,” stated the broadcast team. “Just fell awkwardly. They were looking at his left foot, specifically the left ankle.”
Evidently, things haven’t improved much since Johnson was taken off the court against Auburn. Now, Oklahoma will be without a key rotational piece as they attempt to quell the Horned Frogs.

More on Marvin Johnson, Oklahoma Sooners
While Marvin Johnson and Oklahoma weren’t able to win their game in the Big 12/SEC Challenge, TCU defeated LSU in a thrilling game. Now, the Horned Frogs are looking to continue their momentum against the Sooners.
Moreover, leading the way for TCU was guard Mike Miles — putting 19 points on the Tigers to go with eight rebounds. Additionally, TCU forward Chuck O’Bannon Jr. and Damion Baugh helped down the stretch, scoring 19 and 12 points respectively.
If Oklahoma wants to avoid a home-loss to TCU, forward Tanner Groves will have to play a big role. On the season, Groves is averaging 13.1 points. The Sooners will need every one of those to find victory against the Horned Frogs.
On the other hand, Miles will be looking to have another big game for the Horned Frogs. Following his great performance against LSU, the guard is averaging 15.6 points and 4.1 assists on the season.
Both TCU and Oklahoma have dreams of making it to March. On Monday, one team’s chances will improve drastically — while the other’s will fall.
