Oklahoma kicker Gavin Marshall has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos has confirmed.

Marshall appeared in just two games for the Sooners last season. Entering the transfer portal with four years of eligibility after making both of his PAT attempts in Oklahoma’s opener against Arkansas State and handling kickoff duties three times at Tulsa where he recorded one touchback.

Marshall played high school football in Frisco (TX) where he was an unranked and unrated recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

His transfer portal decision does not come as a big surprise after not being present on the spring roster entering the week with the Sooners beginning spring practice on Monday. As Oklahoma will now have a three-man competition at kicker this offseason between Zach Schmit, Tyler Keltner, and Liam Evans according to Sooner Scoop’s George Stoia.

More on Oklahoma Spring Practice

Oklahoma’s spring practice marks their third under head coach Brent Venables, who will be leading the Sooners into a new era as they enter the SEC starting on July 1 following their 10-3 finish last season.

This offseason Venables only added one new coach to his staff, with co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Zac Alley joining the Sooners this season as he enters his first spring practice in Norman. With former offensive analyst Seth Littrell taking over the offensive coordinator duties this season following the departure of Jeffy Lebby, who became the head coach of Mississippi State.

Quarterback Dillon Gabriel has also left the program, transferring to Oregon as the Jackson Arnold era will officially begin in Norman after he started his first collegiate game in the Alamo Bowl to end last season. Which also served as Littrell’s playcalling debut for the Sooners.

Arnold will retain a majority of Oklahoma’s weapons from the passing game last season, with 69% of the team’s receiving yards coming back in 2024 as four of their top five pass-catchers from 2023 return for the upcoming season.

Oklahoma’s defense is also reloaded this year entering spring practice, with the Sooners’ top six tacklers from last season returning headlined by All-American linebacker Danny Stutsman. Returning 79% of the team’s tackle production from last season along with 85% of their interceptions and 73% of their sacks.
