Oklahoma Sooners trending to flip Texas Tech 4-star WR commit Ivan Carreon

Odessa (Texas) four-star wide receiver Ivan Carreon committed to Texas Tech on Dec. 1. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, he is trending to play college football elsewhere.
Oklahoma currently has a 55.2% chance to flip Carreon from the Red Raiders. The Sooners’ odds for the 6-foot-6, 195-pound recruit rose following an expert prediction from Josh McCuistion of Sooner Scoop.
“At tight end, the combination of (Chase) Loftin and Carreon clearly caught the eye of Joe Jon Finley, who worked closely with both,” McCuistion wrote on June 5. “Carreon was even asked to come and work with the tight ends for a time following starting, and ending, the session with the wide receivers and Emmett Jones.
“Not surprisingly, Carreon is still fine-tuning, and just learning, the finer points of being an in-line tight end, but as a receiver, he’s highly skilled. However, his big frame allows for plenty of growth to become a more complete player. He worked with Loftin through drills; both are natural receivers and make it easy to see why Oklahoma was ready to make an offer.”

Carreon is the No. 299 overall prospect and No. 52 wide receiver in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 51 player in Texas.
On3 rates Carreon higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2024 On300, he is the No. 231 overall prospect, No. 42 wide receiver and No. 48 player in Texas.

Carrion would be a strong addition to Oklahoma’s top-20 class
Flipping Carreon from Texas Tech would mark a big recruiting win for head coach Brent Venables and his staff. The Lone Star State native received an offer from Oklahoma on June 3.
The Sooners’ 2024 recruiting class currently ranks No. 18 in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 10 in the SEC. It contains six commitments, including two from wide receivers in Missouri City (Texas) Hightower four-star Zion Kearney and Franklinton (La.) three-star Kelly Daniels.
Other players pledged to Oklahoma include Lewisville (Texas) four-star safety Jaydan Hardy, Queen Creek (Ariz.) four-star cornerback Jeremiah Newcombe, McKinney (Texas) Frisco Emerson four-star quarterback Michael Hawkins and Fulton (Miss.) Itawamba Agricultural three-star offensive tackle Isaiah Autry.
“Once Coach V got there, the culture changed,” Hawkins told On3’s Sam Spiegelman on April 8. “Oklahoma has come a long way with the culture over there. You can instantly tell that everyone is together as a whole, as a family.”
