On Wednesday night, the Women’s College World Series started up. By the end of the game, Oklahoma and head coach Patty Gasso had a 5-0 win, which represented the Sooners’ 52nd win in a row. However, the game itself was slowed down by weather delays.

During one of the delays, cameras caught Patty Gasso dancing in the dugout and, after the game, she explained what went into that dance.

“I did?” Patty Gasso said. “Was I in the dugout? Thank you. I’m happy that it worked out [laughter]. I was just feeling something. I don’t know.”

“I was wanting to play. Everybody gets really… The wait is hard. The wait, from the moment you wake up, till the moment you get here, then a little bit of anxiousness, then you have to wait, you’re coming out on the field. You’re just trying to get yourself back. I guess that’s what I do. I don’t know [smiling].”

Oklahoma dominated Florida State in game one, so there really was plenty to dance about. Jordy Bahl was dominant for the Sooners, keeping the Seminoles off the scoreboard entirely. Thanks to that performance, Oklahoma is one win away from its third national championship in a row.

Patty Gasso came to Oklahoma in 1995. Since then, she’s turned the Sooners into the premier softball team in the country, winning six Women’s College World Series already.

The Sooners can win their seventh WCWS with a win against Florida State in game two. That game is going to be played on Thursday. If Florida State manages to win that game, a third will be played on Saturday, June 9th. That would then become a winner take all game.

Patty Gasso on managing weather delays

It can be difficult to stay focused and ready to play during a weather delay. In the WCWS, this is more important than ever. Luckily, with her experience, Patty Gasso knows how to handle this kind of delay.

ESPN’s Holly Rowe asked Gasso how she felt her team handled the weather.

“Really good,” Patty Gasso replied. “We live in Oklahoma, so we’ve been in these positions before. It’s nothing new for us.”

After coming out and taking care of business against the Seminoles, it certainly seems like the Sooners knew what they were doing. That comes with the experience and confidence of being back-to-back WCWS champions.
