Oklahoma will get its postseason journey underway on Wednesday, facing TCU in the Big 12 Tournament. But before getting to Kansas City, there were some rumors surrounding head coach Porter Moser. Being from Chicago, Moser was heavily linked with returning home for the DePaul job.

Moser had not commented on the rumors until Monday night, sending a message out. He said there is “zero truth” to him leaving Oklahoma for DePaul and anyone reporting as such is not talking to him directly.

“Heard all the rumors this afternoon and want to say emphatically THERE IS ZERO TRUTH!! I LOVE Oklahoma and Sooner Nation,” Moser said via X. “These accounts make stuff up and there is no validity to any of these ‘sources’ b/c I have spoken to NO ONE about any job!!”

In a reply tweet, Moser said he was at dinner in Kansas City with his team ahead of their game on Wednesday night. Based on social media, Moser seems locked in with Oklahoma and is ready to lead them not just this postseason but also into the SEC.

DePaul fired Tony Stubblefield back in January and has been on the hunt for somebody to replace him ever since. Moser’s name was linked due to his Chicago connection, having a ton of success with Loyola-Chicago before accepting the Oklahoma job.

Moser spent a decade with the Rambles and will forever be remembered for making the Final Four in 2018 as an 11-seed. Returning to the NCAA Tournament three years later, Moser guided the program to a Sweet 16 as an eight-seed, upsetting Illinois in the Round of 64.

Oklahoma poised to make NCAA Tournament under Porter Moser

Entering the third year of Moser at Oklahoma, the Sooners had yet to make the NCAA Tournament. Last season was a losing one, finishing two games under .500 in the regular season. There was some pressure to perform well and to this point, they have done exactly that.

On3’s James Fletcher has Oklahoma as a Last Four Bye team, having some breathing room heading into the Big 12 Tournament. Even if there is an early loss to TCU in Kansas City, there is a good chance the Sooners will be safe.

With the coaching rumors put to the side, Oklahoma can now focus on performing well on the court. They have stumbled into the postseason, losing three of their last four games. Getting back on the right track will be critical this week.
