WATCH: Delarrin Turner-Yell runs impressive 40-yard dash time

Delarrin Turner-Yell was off to the races during the 40-yard dash drill at the NFL Scouting Combine on Sunday. The Oklahoma safety blazed through for an official time of 4.47 to impress the several pro scouts in attendance.
Delarrin Turner-Yell finished middle-of-the-pack among safeties to run the 40-yard dash Sunday. Maryland’s Nick Cross led the position with a time of 4.34, while Baylor cornerback Kalon Barnes led all players after posting a 4.23. Turner-Yell also participated in the broad jump Sunday, where he recorded a jump of 10-feet, two-inches.
The 5-foot-10, 197-pound safety came to Oklahoma as a three-star recruit in 2018, missing his first six games because of injury. He would go on to become a full-time starter at strong safety the following year in 2020, and would remain so for the next three seasons. Turner-Yell was named a second team All-Big 12 selection this past year after recording 53 tackles (2.5 for loss) and two interceptions.

Turner-Yell was far from the only Oklahoma player to participate in the NFL Combine. However, he had one of the best 40s of the entire group, edging out linebacker Brian Asamoah (4.56), edge defender Nik Bonitto (4.54) and running back Kennedy Brooks (4.59). His next chance to impress NFL scouts will come during the Sooners’ Pro Day, which is set to take place at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Turner-Yell currently ranks as the No. 18 safety in the draft according to ESPN’s big board and the No. 211 player overall. With that being the case, he will hope that his performance at the NFL Combine can be enough to up his draft stock. As of right now, the Sooners safety looks to be a late-round pick at best.
The 2022 NFL Draft is schedule to begin April 28 in Las Vegas and will conclude April 30.
