The Oklahoma State Cowboys have had a difficult season through the middle of October. Those struggles have been caused, at least in part, due to the injury issues they’ve had at quarterback. In particular, the injury suffered by starting quarterback Hauss Hejny.

Now, as Oklahoma State prepares to host Cincinnati, interim head coach Doug Meacham shared an injury update on Hauss Hegny. While he’s not ready to get back on the field yet, he has been making strides toward improving.

“Hauss is good,” Doug Meacham said. “I saw him today. He’s walking in a boot. He kind of was jumping up and down. I was like, ‘Woah, woah, woah. What’re you doing?’ But, with the hardware he has in there, I don’t believe he can hurt it any more than it’s already hurt. They’re just waiting on it to fully calcify. I think it’s done that. Now, it’s just getting the legs strong enough to move around.”

Coming out of Fall Camp, previous head coach Mike Gundy named Hauss Hejny the team’s starting quarterback. However, he was injured in the team’s Week 1 opener against UT Martin. That would later be diagnosed as a broken left foot that would require surgery. At the time, On3’s Pete Nakos reported recovery was going to take at least five weeks. The college football season is now entering Week 8.

It’s been a difficult season for Oklahoma State on the whole. The Cowboys are now just 1-6. Their only win came in that opener against UT Martin and head coach Mike Gundy was fired along the way.

“So, he’s come a long way,” Meacham said. “We’ll see what happens with that, you know?”

Hauss Hejny came to Oklahoma State as a transfer from TCU. He’d previously been a four-star recruit in the Class of 2024. There, he was the 246th-ranked player and the 16th-ranked quarterback in his recruiting cycle. In his one game this season, he completed 50 percent of his passes for 96 yards and a touchdown.

As a team, Oklahoma State is 115th nationally in passing offense, averaging 176.2 yards per game. Sam Jackson and Zane Flores have been filling in for Hauss Hejny. Jackson has 161 passing yards on the season to a touchdown and an interception. Flores has 696 passing yards and three interceptions.

Oklahoma State will host Cincinnati on Saturday, with the Bearcats currently ranked No. 24 in the AP Poll. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EST.
