LSU transfer CB JK Johnson signs with Oklahoma State

Former LSU cornerback JK Johnson will transfer to play for Oklahoma State this upcoming season, On3’s Pete Nakos reported. Johnson played the past two seasons with the Tigers after beginning his career at Ohio State and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Johnson suffered an injury before his first year at LSU and sat out the entire 2023 season to take a medical redshirt. He returned this year to play in 10 games, finishing with three total tackles.
The 6-foot-1 cornerback attended DeSmet High School in St. Louis, Missouri, where he was a four-star prospect in the 2021 class. He ranked as the No. 54 overall player and No. 4 cornerback in the cycle according On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
He took a redshirt year his true freshman season with the Buckeyes as he appeared in only two games. The following year he played in all 13 contests to finish with 20 total tackles.
As a transfer, Johnson ranks as the No. 460 overall player and No. 60 cornerback according to On3’s Transfer Portal Rankings. He joins an Oklahoma State team coming off of its worst season ever under coach Mike Gundy, going 3-9 and failing to win a single Big 12 game.

The Cowboys have lost 13 players to the transfer portal so far while Johnson is the seventh player they have added. Additionally, he is the first defensive back OSU has brought in through the portal.
Oklahoma State finished 133rd out of 134 FBS teams in total defense this past season, including 132nd in passing defense. That in mind, the addition of a player such as Johnson is a welcome one.
The portal officially opened on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers.
That means roughly 25 percent of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year, per On3’s Pete Nakos.
