Oklahoma State fans are growing restless. Trailing Tulsa 16-3 at halftime, Cowboys fans rained down a chorus of boos on their team as they headed to the locker room on Friday.

It was a lackluster performance for Oklahoma State in the first half. While the Cowboys’ offense was far from impressive, the team’s defense particularly played poorly.

Oklahoma State gave up 266 total yards of offense to Tulsa in the first half alone. Tulsa quarterback Baylor Hayes completed 16-of-his-25 pass attempts for 182 yards and a touchdown, without throwing an interception.

In fact, Oklahoma State didn’t force Tulsa to commit any turnovers whatsoever in the half. In comparison to Hayes, Oklahoma State QB Zane Flores completed 8-of-his-13 pass attempts for a mere 45 yards. It’s only the latest underwhelming showing for the Cowboys.

In Week 2, Oklahoma State suffered a stunning 69-3 loss against Oregon. In the beatdown, Oklahoma State allowed Oregon to rack up 631 yards of offense, without committing a turnover.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma State recorded just nine first downs against the Ducks. The 66-point loss was the largest in head coach Mike Gundy‘s 20 years at the helm of Oklahoma State. Worse, it was the largest losing margin for Oklahoma State in more than 100 years.

The pressure is on for Oklahoma State to find its footing in the second half against Tulsa. Gundy entered this season on the hot seat after the team finished the 2024 campaign with an ugly 3-9 record, the program’s worst since he took the reins in 2005.

If Oklahoma State decided to part ways with Mike Gundy at the end of this season, it would have to pay him $15 million. In December 2024, Gundy agreed to terms on a restructured contract that included a $1 million reduction in salary and new buyout terms.

The new contract, which pays him $6.75 million this year, includes an annual raise of $125,000 per year moving forward. Oklahoma State paid Tulsa $300,000 to come to Stillwater and play. Oklahoma State hasn’t lost to Tulsa since 1998.

Mike Gundy will have no choice but to attempt to right the ship in the second half against the Golden Hurricane. He is the winningest coach in Oklahoma State football history.

Along with Utah‘s Kyle Whittingham, Gundy is the second-longest tenured head coach in college football. Tune into ESPN as Gundy and Co. attempt to mount a comeback against Tulsa in the second half.
