Oklahoma State made school history on Saturday with their 61-54 win over No. 1 ranked Baylor, while the Bears made history in the wrong way. The Cowboys handed Baylor their second loss this week, the first time ever that Oklahoma State beat an AP No. 1 team on the road in school history.

Oklahoma State beats Baylor

Oklahoma State impressed in a number of ways on Saturday, but nothing surprised fans more than the final score over the current No. 1 ranked team in the nation. The Cowboys improved to 9-7 on the season and 2-3 in conference play as they shook up the Big 12 rankings.

Meanwhile, Baylor’s loss was the second of the season and the second loss this week. After beginning the season with a 15-0 record, Baylor lost back-to-back home games against Texas Tech and Oklahoma State to fall into third place in the Big 12. Baylor is the first AP No. 1 team in history to lose two home games in a single week.

Before falling to Texas Tech, Baylor had the longest winning streak in the nation with 21-straight wins. The Bears had also won 22 consecutive home games, winning those by an average margin of more than 26 points.

The Cowboys began the game strong, holding Baylor to just 25.8 percent shooting in the first half. While Baylor rallied in the second half and put themselves in a position to win it late, Oklahoma State held on with a pair of turnovers and finished the job.

Oklahoma State is ineligible for the NCAA Tournament at the end of the season after a postseason ban was part of the school’s punishment for a bribery scandal involving a former assistant coach. Despite the lack of a postseason for the Cowboys, defeating Baylor is a signature win for the team.

Oklahoma State has one of the best ranked defenses in the nation this season as they develop a new identity after the departure of No. 1 overall draft pick Cade Cunningham.
