Report: Spencer Sanders ruled out for Oklahoma State vs Iowa State

Oklahoma State will reportedly have to turn to another option at quarterback again this week. Spencer Sanders has been ruled out vs. Iowa State, The Action Network’s Brett McMurphy reported.
It’ll mark Sanders’ second straight absence as he deals with a shoulder injury. That means the Cowboys will turn to either Gunnar Gundy or Garret Rangel in Sanders’ place, McMurphy tweeted. Rangel, a true freshman, started last week’s game against Kansas — a 37-16 Oklahoma State loss.

Sanders has appeared in eight games this year for the Cowboys, throwing for 288 yards and 15 touchdowns. He’s also proving to be a threat in the running game, taking 87 carries for 343 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.
Last week in his first career start, Rangel threw for 304 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw three interceptions against Kansas. He arrived in Stillwater as a four-star recruit and the No. 17 quarterback prospect from the class of 2022, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On the other side, Iowa State has struggled this season, bringing a 4-5 overall record and 1-5 record in Big 12 play into Saturday’s game. The Cyclones halted their five-game losing streak with a victory over West Virginia to finally get into the win column in conference play.
