The SEC won’t suspend Ole Miss G Allen Flanigan for an elbow he threw against South Carolina’s Zachary Davis on Saturday.

David Eckert of the The Clarion Ledger shared a report of that outcome on Monday evening. That came via an answer from a spokeperson with the conference that spoke with him about the decision.

“All of the discipline was adjudicated by the officials during the game,” the spokesperson said to Eckert.

Flanigan was ejected in the second half of the contest after delivering the blow following a brief review.

Before he was ejected in the 72-59 loss on Saturday, Flanigan had scored 11 points. He’s the second-leading scorer for the Rebels on a per-game basis, averaging 15.4 points per game entering Saturday’s contest. He’s also the team’s leading rebounder, hauling down 6.6 per game.

For an Ole Miss team that just fell to 19-8, losing Flanigan for any amount of time down the final stretch would have been a key loss for a team that’s fighting to secure an NCAA Tournament bid. That could still change, though, depending on if the team elects to punish him themselves on an internal basis.

For now, though, Flanigan is set to return to the floor on Wednesday when the Rebels play host to No. 13 Alabama.

Flanigan isn’t the only SEC player recently suspended for an elbow

The SEC handed out disciplinary measures in the form of a one-game suspension to Alabama F Mohamed Wague following an incident in a game against Florida last week on Feb. 21.

CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander reported on Feb. 22 that the league would suspend Wague for one game. The SEC shortly confirmed the news thereafter. That meant Wague missed the team’s contest at No. 17. Kentucky this past weekend, a 117-95 loss.

Cameras caught Wague throwing an elbow into the back of the head of Florida F Alex Condon in the first half.

The incident in question occurred during a scramble for a loose ball. Wague appeared to lower his arm on Condon in the pile after the two collided while going for the ball. Officials whistled play dead for a foul on Florida and play continued on without a review.

Once league officials had a chance to review the tape following the game, they deemed the hit by Wague unnecessary and untoward, tagging him with a suspension for the following game.

Wague is a rotational reserve for Alabama, playing 10.0 minutes per game. He averages 4.0 points and 2.8 rebounds per game, while also chipping in the occasional block.
