Ole Miss Fall Camp Intel 8 16

Lane Kiffin is still letting his quarterback competition play out. Just a few weeks until the season opener, nobody has been named the starter at Ole Miss. Everyone involved has commented and spoken on all three guys but on Thursday, we got a different perspective on the battle.

Wide receiver Tre Harris gave his thoughts on the mixture of Jaxon Dart, Walker Howard, and Spencer Sanders. He believes all three are battling it out right now. Everyone brings something different to the table according to Harris.

“I would definitely say so,” Harris said when asked if it’s a battle. “Each guy brings something different to the field. It’s going to be a battle until Day One whenever we’re playing against Mercer.

Harris believes the competition will end before Ole Miss’ season opener against Mercer. Kiffin would have it the same way, saying he does not want it to extend past fall camp. There is a risk involved with making a decision but the Rebels need a guy.

“I would prefer for it not to,” Kiffin stated in early August. “I’ve always said that I always think it’s better to have your guy. But you don’t want to risk choosing the wrong one.”

As for comfortability with Harris, he is cool with any of Dart, Howard, or Sanders stepping onto the field against Mercer. It’s a general consensus between the Ole Miss wide receiver room. The Rebels feel like they are going to win games no matter what.

“So, each guy I am really comfortable with,” Harris said. “I feel like all of the receivers are comfortable with each guy. All I can say is each guy is making each other better. Especially every single day.”

Harris does not have a prior relationship with any of the guys. He is another product of Kiffin and his use of the NCAA transfer portal, previously playing at Louisiana Tech. While Dart may have been the starter during the 2022 season, Harris was not there to experience it.

So when Harris says he is meshing well with all three guys, there is reason to believe him. Now, we all just have to sit back and wait to see who Kiffin picks before Sept. 2. Ole Miss is always going to want to have a high-powered offense, no matter who winds up winning the job.

Harris is going to be a great asset throughout the process.
