Four-star Bowie (Md.) St. Frances Academy quarterback Michael Van Buren is one of the few remaining top quarterbacks still on the board in the 2024 cycle.

After weekend commitments from four-stars Air Noland and Michael Hawkins, the DMV passer is one of just five uncommitted QBs ranked in the top 20 of the On3 Industry quarterback rankings.

As one of the schools that missed out on Noland, Oregon is still in search of its 2024 quarterback and has its eyes on Van Buren. After visiting Eugene earlier this spring, he’ll be back again this weekend, he announced on Monday.

The Ducks are one of a handful of teams prioritizing Van Buren, along with Maryland, Penn State, and Virginia. Miami, Oklahoma and Ohio State — three contenders earlier this spring — have all taken quarterback commitments in the past week.

Oregon, meanwhile, has made him one of its top priorities under Dan Lanning and offensive coordinator Will Stein.

“I like everything about Oregon,” he told BlueWhiteIllustrated this spring. “The facilities are top-notch. There are a lot of benefits to being an Oregon Duck. The Nike facility and all the other stuff. The coaching staff, Coach Lanning, he’s really building something special. I feel like Oregon is definitely going to be a national championship contender very soon, so I like a lot about Oregon.”

Van Buren already has an official visit locked in with the Nittany Lions this summer and has said previously that Oregon is likely to get one as well. He plans to have a decision made prior to his senior season, but with more quarterback dominoes falling, that could be moving up in the coming weeks.

Whenever that decision comes, he knows what he’s looking for in a program, whether it’s close to home or not.

“I want to go to a place where I’m going to be developed,” Van Buren said. “I want to go somewhere I know I’m going to win and contribute. Everybody wants to play as a freshman, but I’m looking for development. Even if I have to sit, then that’s cool. I want a family culture and a stable coaching staff.”

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Van Buren is the No. 173 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 12 passer and the No. 5 recruit in the state of Maryland.
