Bad drives happen in golf. But it’s rare a PGA Tour golfer hits a fellow player with one.

That happened during the second round of the PGA Championship on Friday when Cameron Smith teed off on the second hole. He sprayed it so far right it hit fellow player Aaron Wise, who was on the seventh hole.

Not to worry, though. Wise started the day on the 10th hole, so he only had three holes to go when that happened. Afterward, he said he was a “little sore,” but felt “fine” otherwise. But as he signed his scorecard, he held a cold bottle of water to his head.

Wise — who played at Oregon from 2014 to 2016 — finished the day +1 and is +2 through two rounds of the tournament, which is being played at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Smith is still keeping pace with the leaders, sitting tied for fifth at -3 as he enters his final nine holes of the second round.

Will Zalatoris, Justin Thomas jockeying for the lead at the PGA Championship

Justin Thomas ended his second round with the lead at the PGA Championship, but Will Zalatoris made a surge thanks to a fast start to take the lead through 12 holes on the day. Rory McIlroy, who topped the leaderboard entering Friday’s play, struggled and fell out of the top spot.

One of the storylines of the tournament is Tiger Woods, who’s playing in his second tournament of the year — and his second tournament since a car accident nearly took his leg in February 2021. Woods made headlines by playing in The Masters last month and making the cut, which was an incredible story considering all he went through in the year leading up to the event. He had a rough go in the first round of the PGA Championship, and those struggled continued into Round 2 as he sat at +5 overall heading into the 13th hole.
