Adored Oregon pet duck, Quacktavious, dies

The Oregon Ducks fan base lost a very special friend on Wednesday evening. Quacktavious, the beloved pet duck that once attended an Oregon football game at Autzen Stadium, has passed away. The duck was the pet of a Ducks’ student, Jeremy Jackson.
According to an article from James Crepea of The Oregonian, Jackson found the nearly three-year old duck deceased after he got home from physical training with the Army National Guard on Wednesday morning.
“I think it was just natural,” Jackson said. “The days leading up he was good like he always is. I fed him again last night and he was eating, drinking the water. I got up this morning for PT and he was still good. When I came back from PT I went in and checked on him and he was gone,” Jackson explained.
Quacktavious earned national attention after Jackson brought him into the Oregon student section for the Ducks’ football game against Colorado on Sept. 23, 2023. In the nearly 18 months since then, Quacktavious and his owner have been always together on campus and around the town of Eugene.
Although the beloved pet didn’t make any more appearances at Oregon football games, Quacktavious was seen at other Ducks’ sporting events, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, beach volleyball matches, and social events.

Jackson originally bought Quacktavious at a Tractor Supply Co. in Starkville, Mississippi. It sounds like he’ll certainly miss his dear old friend. But more than anything, he was happy that his beloved pet brought so many memories and joy to the people of Eugene and the Oregon fan base.
“When my time here is done, I hope that’s the one thing that can be said about me, that I shared all these memories with everyone, and I was able to help them experience that joy I had with Quacktavious,” Jackson explained.
The Quacktavious Instagram page has 4,691 followers. On Wednesday, many different fans and students posted pictures of the adored duck in memory. The pet’s everlasting impact and memory will live on forever in Eugene and beyond.
