LOOK: Dan Lanning gets new tattoo with meaningful symbols from life, coaching career
Dan Lanning got some new ink across his side and ribs, according to a post on Instagram from tattoo artist Alec Turner.
The Oregon Ducks coach got a portrait of his wife Sauphia that also contained several meaningful symbols. The extensive piece could be quite exhausting to sit through, but the Ducks coach seemed to be just fine throughout the process.
Look below to see the Oregon coach’s new piece.
Lanning’s tattoo includes the 816 area code, the greater Kansas City area. Lanning and his wife hail from the area.
But that’s not all, the tattoo also features a boomerang for the Outback Steakhouse where they first met, as well as logos for Pittsburgh, Lanning’s first stop as a coach, Arizona State, the state of Texas for Sam Houston State, Alabama and 33-18, which was last year’s national title score when Lanning was the defensive coordinator at Georgia.
Not only that, there is a yellow cancer ribbon for the osteosarcoma Sauphia had while they were at Memphis, surrounded by Oregon’s logo.

On the football field, Lanning had a great first year as head coach, going 10-3 and winning the Holiday Bowl over North Carolina.
With quarterback Bo Nix coming back in 2023, it could set up a great run to a potential Pac-12 title as well as future success. “There’s no doubt that great players want to play with great players,” Lanning said, via Scoop Duck. “Bo’s a really talented player that makes us strong moving forward. He certainly had a positive impact on us finishing down the stretch. We’ll continue to do that as we move forward.”
