Dan Lanning gives take on trying to restore Oregon recruiting in Texas

Dan Lanning gave an interesting take on attempting to restore Oregon‘s recruiting trail in Texas. According to Lanning, the success the Ducks have in the Lone Star State will fluctuate.
“I think it’s a little bit year to year,” stated Lanning, in his 2022 National Signing Day Press Conference. “We want to go attack the players that we think fit us. And organizationally, wherever they’re at. Sometimes that’s going to be Texas, and sometimes it’ll be more in Texas than others. But we have great, strong ties there on our staff, certainly. Just like we do on the West Coast, and the Pacific Northwest.
“It’ll definitely be a place that we always go, have a footprint, and we’re going to attack. I just don’t know what that number will be like year in and year out.”
In Oregon‘s 2022 recruiting class, the only athlete out of Texas is cornerback Khamari Terrell. A four-star recruit out of Killeen, Texas — the Ducks hope Terrell can be an example for other Texas athletes to follow. Additionally, Terrell is the No. 27 overall cornerback, and the No. 246 recruit overall, according to On3’s 2022 Consensus Top Football Recruits.
It won’t be an overnight change for Oregon in the state. Still, it’s evident Dan Lanning will make a concerted effort to restore the Ducks‘ name in Texas.

Lanning on recruiting: ‘A challenge we welcome.’
Dan Lanning applauded his staff for the uphill battle they faced during recruiting. While Lanning was finishing his tenure at Georgia, his staff was aiding him with finding the right players for his next venture.
In his press conference for National Signing Day, Lanning touched on the subject, praising his coaches.
“For us as a staff it was a challenge, but a challenge we welcome,” stated Lanning. “You know, Oregon’s a phenomenal place. We’ve got the ability to get great players here. I think that people just had to have an opportunity to sit down, listen to us and realize we have a genuine group here that care.
“Certainly excited about the group we were able to put together.”
As you can see, Dan Lanning and his staff welcome the challenges of building a program. While there will be plenty of obstacles for his the coach and his staff to overcome, the Oregon leader looks to be the right man to lead the ship.
