Dante Moore reacts to Teddy Bridgewater comparison, shares No. 5 origin

Most players have an inspiration behind the numbers they wear. Oregon quarterback Dante Moore is no different, rocking the No. 5 with the Ducks. He did not get the number with the UCLA Bruins but once in Eugene, the switch was instantly made.

To this day, Moore wears No. 5 due to former Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller. It was his favorite player growing up in the Midwest, watching the Buckeyes play. A legendary player in Columbus, he still has at least one fan in the Pacific Northwest.

“Growing up, I was born in Cleveland, OH,” Moore said Tuesday. “Braxton Miller, quarterback of Ohio State, No. 5, he was my favorite player of all-time, still is. He wore five so when I put on No. 5, I kind of feel like him. So, that’s where five comes from.”

However, Miller is not the quarterback that Moore gets a ton of comparisons to. It’s another quarterback who famously wore No. 5 during his college playing days at Louisville. Plenty of people can see how the playing style of Teddy Bridgewater is similar to Moore’s.

When asked about the association, Moore gave a great reaction. Bridgewater is apparently close to Oregon offensive coordinator Will Stein. From a football perspective, getting comped to Bridgewater is a high compliment. But add in an accessory both wear while playing and it’s nearly perfect.

“Teddy B is a great quarterback,” Moore said. “Him and Coach Stein are really close. Watched a lot of film on him and of course, the gloves. I wear the one glove, he wears the two gloves. He’s a great guy as well.”

Bridgewater enjoyed a great career, being named ACC Player of the Year in 2012. He was eventually drafted in the first round by the Minnesota Vikings with the No. 32 overall pick. Teddy Two Gloves wound up playing for six different teams, throwing for over 15,000 yards in the NFL.

Moore is still a little removed before he thinks about the next level. Right now, the goal is to officially win the Oregon starting quarterback competition. He is facing off against Austin Novosad, looking to be the first one out there Aug. 30 against Montana State.

If Dan Lanning does pick Moore, a Bridgewater-like career would certainly be welcomed by Oregon fans. Making a few plays like Miller did back in his days would add to the excitement level.
