Oregon mascot loses Duck head while running onto the field

Disaster struck Oregon before the game even began for its season opener against Montana State. As pregame festivities were getting underway, the FOX broadcast caught the Ducks mascot losing its head — literally.
Cameras captured the moment where the mascot was running onto the field and fell down, causing the head of the costume to come off. The person then took off the the other direction, presumably to get out of sight before too many people saw his true identity. You can watch the moment below.
Things got off to a bit better of a start once the game actually got underway. Oregon jumped out to a quick 17-0 start, which began when running back Jayden Limar found the end zone first for a 16-yard touchdown run.
Quarterback Dante Moore, who takes over this season after Dillon Gabriel is on to the NFL, scored the next touchdown on a 20-yard find with thight end Kenyon Sadiq. Oregon entered this season at No. 7 in the AP poll after advancing to the College Football Playoff quarterfinals last year.
It’s safe to say the team is off to a hot start after the blunder from its mascot. Hopefully the Oregon Duck can avoid any more mishaps as the day continues at Autzen Stadium.

Greg McElroy: Oregon could be darkhorse national title contender
The Oregon Ducks are going into the 2025 season with high expectations. Still, for many, they’re just on the outside looking in at the preseason national championship race, making them an interesting darkhorse contender.
One person who is all in on Oregon as a darkhorse contender for the national title is Greg McElroy. On his show Always College Football, he defined a darkhorse team as starting the season ranked seventh or lower in the Preseason AP Poll. The Ducks currently sit seventh.
“I look at a team like Oregon,” Greg McElroy said. “Vegas has them seventh in the power ratings. AP has them seventh in the rankings. Here’s what I love about Oregon is that they can just weather the storm of the regular season. I don’t think the schedule is insurmountable. It’s tough. They go to Penn State and have a couple very difficult games, but the schedule, I think, was actually maybe a little tougher last year than it is this year.”
