Oregon offers 2024 4-star QB Michael Van Buren

Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy four-star quarterback Michael Van Buren was a visitor for Oregon‘s 41-20 win over BYU. He ended up leaving Eugene with an offer from the Ducks.

The 5-foot-11.5, 185 pound signal-caller announced the news on Saturday night. He now has 25 offers.

Van Buren is the No. 77 overall prospect and No. 8 quarterback in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 2 player in Maryland.

Programs who have extended offers to Van Buren include Alabama, Michigan and Penn State. He told On3’s Chad Simmons in July that he is not rushing his recruitment.

“There’s just thousands of schools,” Van Buren said. “I’m just going to take my time, make sure I do what’s right for me.”

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Nittany Lions are the leaders for his commitment at 23.3%. He took an unofficial visit to State College on March 26.

RPM was released to the public in December. The On3 engineering group teamed up with Spiny.ai to create the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college. 

It factors in machine learning, social sentiment, visits and historical trends. However, expert predictions are still a big piece of the RPM equation.

Oregon’s 2024 recruiting class currently contains no commitments. However, the Ducks’ 2023 class ranks No. 11 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 1 in the Pac-12.

Van Buren has an On3 NIL Valuation of $75K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
