Oregon unveils 'Grateful Ducks' uniforms in tribute to 'The Grateful Dead'

Oregon revealed a new uniform combination dubbed the “Grateful Ducks,” in tribute to popular rock band “The Grateful Dead.” The university unveiled them Sunday, showing QB Dante Moore in an all black look with some intriguing nods to the band.
On the shoulder pad sleeve, the Ducks logo looks like the band’s “Steal Your Face” logo. Moore’s helmet also showed a new version of the “Dancing Bears,” replacing them with Ducks.
Of course, we can’t forget about the tie-dye on the uniforms either, showcased on the number in the middle of the jersey. You can see the new Oregon uniforms below.
“As it’s the Oregon tradition to be untraditional, this is just the latest example of the relationship between Nike and Oregon represented in a football uniform accompanied by both player and fan off-field apparel,” Oregon football equipment administrator Kenny Farr said. “We are grateful — pun very much intended — for the opportunity to participate in this collaboration.”
There actually is a connection between Oregon and “The Grateful Dead.” The school had more on the tribute.
“The “tie-dye out” will carry forward the shared history of the University of Oregon and Grateful Dead, which began in 1965 when novelist and Merry Pranksters leader Ken Kesey returned home to Oregon from San Francisco, bringing with him the energy that fueled the psychedelic and countercultural movement,” the release read. “In 1968, the Grateful Dead performed their first concert at the University of Oregon’s EMU Ballroom, forging a bond that transcended music.”
Moore had a great performance Saturday night against Rutgers, getting Oregon back on track. In the 56-10 win over the Scarlet Knights, Moore had 290 yards, four touchdowns and one interception on 15-of-20 passing. He also ran for 49 yards on three carries.

“He was out there playing with joy,” head coach Dan Lanning said postgame. “You could see the smile on his face tonight. And there’s still going to be some moments he’s going to want back, some opportunities we missed and things we can improve. But overall, I thought he executed the plan we asked him to execute at a high level.”
Lanning tipped his cap to Rutgers and Greg Schiano, despite Oregon’s lopsided win. But he was also asked about the Ducks capturing some momentum moving forward.
“In football, the rent is due every week,” Lanning said. “As great as this win was, to see us accomplish to our standard what we wanted to be able to do, we gotta come to work next week again. It’s never gonna be easy. It’s really not about what you’ve done for me lately, it’s about right now.
“We have to come back and go to work. We’ll travel back and get back probably a little after 3 a.m. and be back at work ready to roll on Sunday.”
