Oregon quarterback Ty Thompson plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he tells ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Oklahoma transfer quarterback Dillon Gabriel announced his commitment to the Ducks on Saturday. Expected to be the heir apparent to Bo Nix, Oregon is also in the mix to land former five-star recruit Dante Moore, who is “very likely” to visit Eugene this week.

The offseason moves put Thompson in a tough position. Entering the portal allows the quarterback to explore his possible options. Thompson redshirted in 2021 and served as a backup quarterback this past season.

In his three seasons at Oregon, Thompson threw for 456 career yards with six touchdowns and four interceptions.

He played high school football at Gilbert (Ariz.) Mesquite, where he was a five-star prospect. He was the No. 31 overall recruit and No. 6 quarterback in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
