LOOK: Penn State student section officially warned by police, school for using slurs towards Rutgers

The Penn State Legion of Blue student section received an official warning by the police for using slurs against Rutgers basketball players. According to a note shared to members of the student section, they were informed of several issues during the game that arose — including throwing a “fathead” poster at the Rutgers players and coaches, as well as “explicit, racist and vulgar language” used throughout the game.

The memo condemning the behavior reported from Sunday’s game between the Nittany Lions and the Scarlet Knights was shared online on Monday — giving a clear insight into how Penn State handled the reports from their end.

“There were reports of a fan throwing a fathead at one of the opposing players/coaches and that is unacceptable, and it’s something that can not only get you banned from the BJC but face police charges as well,” started Legion of Blue vice president Noah Odige.

“Furthermore, the police have issued a warning to Athletics due to the alleged explicit, racist, and vulgar language directed to members of the Rutgers basketball team.

“Things such as f-bombs, n-words, and other slurs being thrown around are downright unacceptable, and the privilege of sitting behind the benches will be revoked if this behavior continues.”

Based on the response from Odige and the Legion of Blue after Sunday’s game, it appears that they’re taking the allegations seriously and getting ahead of any future issues. One particular note of interest in the memo was the claim that sitting behind the benches could be taken away from the student section — eliminating one of the biggest home court advantages Penn State has if reports of inappropriate remarks continues.
