Sean Clifford becomes Penn State all-time touchdown leader in Ohio State loss

Saturday wasn’t all bad for Sean Clifford. After throwing his third touchdown of the day late in the fourth quarter, Clifford became Penn State‘s all-time leader in touchdown passes in a career. Throwing his 78th touchdown, Clifford surpassed Trace McSorley (2015-2018) and has now rewritten the Nittany Lions record books.
Clifford’s arm was heavily relied upon for head coach James Franklin’s game plan against Ohio State, as the redshirt senior dropped back to pass 47 times Saturday. He completed 32 of them for 371 yards, the aforementioned three touchdowns, and three game-changing interceptions.
Penn State would go on to lose 44-31 and drop to 6-2 on the season and 0-2 against top-five teams.

Clifford still has some time to pad that record as well. With four games to go in the regular season, plus a bowl game, the Nittany Lions QB could potentially throw upwards of 90 career touchdown passes when it’s all said and done.

Penn State tight end Brenton Strange was rightfully called for unsportsmanlike conduct against Ohio State after smacking Buckeyes EDGE J.T. Tuimoloau across the head in the first half.

The incident happened after the play was out of reach of the two players, but one would think Strange must have been provoked to do so. Though, this is a rivalry matchup and sometimes petty hits like this happen just because all the time.

Later in the drive, Nittany Lions quarterback Sean Clifford found wideout Parker Washington on a screen pass. Washington incredibly spun out of two tackles simultaneously, got a block and raced his way into the end zone.
