Penn State quarterback Drew Allar entered his senior season with massive expectations. But he has been extremely disappointing through five games.

Allar, who was tabbed as one of the top quarterback prospects in the upcoming NFL Draft, has completed 64.7% of his passes for just 963 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions. His QBR currently sits at 56.2, which ranks 14th among Big Ten quarterbacks.

He led the Nittany Lions to wins in their first three games of the season against Nevada, FIU and Villanova, but was dreadful in back-to-back losses to No. 6 Oregon and UCLA. Allar threw the game-deciding interception in the 2OT loss to the Ducks and was stopped on 4th & 2 from the Bruin 12-yard line with 40 seconds remaining in the loss to UCLA.

Due to his inconsistency and disappointing play, College Football Hall of Famer Urban Meyer ripped Allar on the latest edition of ‘The Triple Option‘ podcast.

Drew Allar is gonna be a person of contention here,” Meyer said. “Every game they’ve lost, the ball ends in his hands. Remember Oregon? He threw into triple coverage in overtime after doing a great job of going down the field and scoring twice. Then, they do a run play with him on 4th & 2 against UCLA.”

Urban Meyer claims he doesn’t know what went wrong with final play against UCLA

“I ran that play back 25 times, trying to find out exactly what went wrong there. James Franklin said they missed a block, but it was a tough block. The No. 2 receiver had to block a guy that was coming. That was a tough block and he got hit right in the face and Penn State walks out with a loss.”

ESPN‘s Louis Riddick shared the same sentiment on Tuesday’s edition of ‘Get Up.’ The former NFL Director of pro personnel said that Allar doesn’t look like the same player this season.

“Now, I saw him at the end of last year in the Fiesta Bowl against Boise State,” Riddick said. “And I’m sitting there going, ‘No wonder he wants to come back because I think he can ball himself into a Top 10 pick.’ He just doesn’t look the same this year. He doesn’t look like he’s playing with the same confidence, and if he keeps looking like that, scouts, without a doubt, are going to move him down.”

The senior quarterback will look to get back on track this weekend against Northwestern. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
