Kevin Jennings injury update: SMU QB exits TCU rivalry game with significant limp

SMU QB Kevin Jennings exited the Mustangs’ rivalry game vs. TCU with a significant limp Saturday. The injury occurred early in the third quarter with TCU leading 14-10.
SMU ended up punting on the drive and the Horned Frogs extended the lead on their next possession. TCU led the Mustangs 21-0 with 10:50 to go in the third quarter.
At the time of his exit, Jennings was 12-of-19 passing for 150 yards and a touchdown. The sack where he was hurt can be seen below.
With an 11-point deficit, Jennings actually made his way back into the game, albeit with a heavy limp. He was clearly limited compared to the previous drive. ESPN’s Taylor Davis had more as Jennings returned to the game.
“He’s taking the field right now but he did spend time in the medical tent,” Davis said. “They were evaluating that left leg. He came out, gave two thumbs up immediately. The trainers had him do some walking and jumping along the sideline and he was fine with it. Gave more thumbs up. But guys, watching him walk onto the field right now, he is favoring that left leg, he’s walking with a bit of a limp. So even ahead of this hit, he may be at 75% in that regard. Definitely something to keep an eye on as it’s a huge piece of his game.”
Coming into the game, Jennings had 836 yards, six touchdowns, three interceptions and a 70.5% completion percentage. Over the course of his career, excluding Saturday, Jennings has 4,904 yards, 35 touchdowns, 16 interceptions and a 65% completion percentage.

Jennings dealt with injuries earlier this month, especially ahead of the Missouri State game. SMU went on to win 28-10 with Jennings going 24-of-36 for 281 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Dealing with injuries and losses have been an early theme this year for Jennings and SMU. The team lost the opener to the Baylor Bears in overtime.
“I feel like we responded really well,” Jennings said following a loss to Baylor. “Yesterday with walkthrough, came out intentional with every single thing we did. Today, we came out at practice with an emphasis to get better. The mistakes we made against Baylor, I think we responded really well. The team is very determined to become better and do the little things better.
“Week 2, we came out, we fought hard, we played a really good game. It’s just about finishing. I think that’s what we need to see throughout the season Week 3, Week 4, Week 5 … Just us being able to finish in key situations and put the game away.”
