Auburn QB transfer Robby Ashford expected to commit, sign with South Carolina

Former Auburn quarterback Robby Ashford is expected to commit to South Carolina. Mike Gittens provided further details on the situation.
“Sources tell me that Robby Ashford will stay in the SEC and sign with South Carolina,” Gittens wrote on X. “All eligibility issues have been cleared and he will be immediately eligible to play for Shane Beamer’s squad. He has 2 years of eligibility left.”
Matt Zenitz of 247 confirmed this report. Ashford transferred to Auburn in 2022 after two seasons with Oregon. He rotated at QB for the Tigers in 2022 alongside TJ Finley. In 2023, Ashford primarily served as Auburn’s backup QB to Payton Thorne, though he did occasionally feature in the offense.
Ashford played high school football at Hoover (Ala.) High, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 318 overall recruit and No. 23 quarterback in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Ashford was the No. 5 quarterback still available in the transfer portal, according to On3’s Transfer Portal Player Rankings. He will be the 18th player South Carolina has added in the transfer portal.
