South Carolina had a special guest to hype up the crowd ahead of a key conference showdown with Kentucky on Saturday night. None other than Connor Shaw graced the field and fired up the fans.

Shaw, of course, is coming off a scary hospitalization recently. He collapsed while at his son’s football game in the state, needing CPR before heading to the hospital in an ambulance.

He was released from the hospital a week ago and is apparently doing well enough to make public appearances at this point. That’s great news for the former South Carolina great.

You can view Shaw hyping up the crowd below. He leads them in a “GAME-COCKS, GAME-COCKS!” chant before reaching over and kissing his son on the head, clearly relishing the moment.

New details have emerged on what happened the day that Shaw collapsed. According to Chad Smith, an eyewitness who was at the game, he was on an adjacent field when a woman came running over asking for anyone with medical experience. One of the coaches on Smith’s field was a firefighter and bolted over.

There they found Shaw lying face first in the grass. The person immediately began performing CPR on Shaw while bystanders called 911. He was later transported to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Thankfully, Shaw was in stable condition a few days later, leading to his release. South Carolina coach Shane Beamer shouted him out during a mid-game interview during a contest against Missouri.

“Connor Shaw, I know you’re watching back in South Carolina,” Beamer said. “I know you went home today and we’re thinking of you, my man. God bless.”

Now Shaw is back home, in Williams-Brice Stadium. It has to be a surreal moment for the former quarterback, appearing in a wholly different capacity on Saturday night.
