Dylan Stewart injury update: Shane Beamer reveals ailment which kept South Carolina star out vs. Oklahoma

South Carolina EDGE Dylan Stewart left the Gamecocks’ game against Oklahoma in the first quarter due to an injury. After being examined by the team’s trainers and riding on the stationary bike on the sideline, Stewart returned to the game in the second quarter.
After a short stint in the game, Stewart was helped off the field and didn’t return. The Gamecocks ultimately fell 26-7 to the Sooners. After the loss, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer revealed the nature of Stewart’s injury.
“Got a hip [injury] both times,” Beamer said. “Thought he could go, he went back in the second time and got hit again. I don’t have much of an update other than just a hip injury.”
Stewart didn’t record any tackles during his limited action. On Sunday, Beamer provided a general update on several injured South Carolina players, including Dylan Stewart.
“We’ll know more after a day or so; optimistic on all those guys,” Beamer said during his SEC teleconference. “I don’t think anybody’s long-term. We feel optimistic on all those guys that either missed yesterday or left the game yesterday. We’re optimistic on their availability for Saturday.”
South Carolina missed Stewart’s talent against the Sooners. The Gamecocks only recorded one sack and three tackles for loss against Oklahoma.
In total, Oklahoma tallied 319 yards of total offense in the win, without committing any turnovers. With the loss, South Carolina fell 3-4 and 1-4 in conference play. The Gamecocks have lost four of their last five games.

The team will need Stewart to turn things around. The sophomore standout boasts 27 tackles, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles this season. He entered the 2025 campaign as one of the most highly-touted pass rushers in the SEC.
With four losses, South Carolina is out of College Football Playoff contention, but the team can still finish with a solid record. On Saturday, Shane Beamer let out a fiery response when asked what gives him hope for the rest of the season.
“Every week, we’re continuing to look at how to be better, and every week I do that, and every week I will continue to do that and continue to evaluate that,” Beamer said. “What gives me hope? I see the way we practice during the week. What gives me hope? I see the number of guys that we had out today that I wasn’t even sure was going to be able to play that fought their asses off to get back out there and get healthy and be able to play today.
“What gives me hope? I know the talent we have on our offense. What I just told our team, we’re not playing up to our potential right now. I am not getting the most out of this team right now, offensively, defensively and special teams.”
