Field Yates: LaNorris Sellers showcasing 'highest ceiling' among college QBs

Which college football quarterback has the highest ceiling among his peers? ESPN’s Field Yates believes it’s LaNorris Sellers from South Carolina.
The analyst joined Get Up on Wednesday to break down quarterbacks heading into the 2025 season. Yates believes this is the year the Gamecocks’ star could take over and truly make a name for himself with NFL scouts.
“It’s LaNorris Sellers from South Carolina,” Yates responded, regarding which quarterback has the highest ceiling. “He’s gigantic. He looks almost like an NFL tight end. Some of the things he’s able to do, both with his mobility outside the pocket and his movement inside the pocket, are hard to coach — maybe even impossible to coach.
“I think back to the game late last season when South Carolina was playing great ball against Clemson. They won that game 17–14, and LaNorris Sellers had 16 carries for 166 yards and two touchdowns. There was some real Houdini magic within the pocket. He’s got unbelievable size, great speed to match it, and he makes ‘wow’ plays all over his tape.”
You don’t have to tell Louis Riddick twice about Sellers. Yates’ colleague followed up with glowing praise of the young quarterback, saying he has all the tools to become a superstar.

“He’s got it all,” Riddick added. “Now this year, he’ll be working with a new offensive coordinator, since Dowell Loggins left to become the head coach at App State. But just look at this throw. I know people will point out the level of competition — I believe this was against Furman — but watch how the ball travels. It’s 55–60 yards on a rope. There are only a handful of people on the planet who can make that throw.
“I don’t care if it’s against Furman or the Pop Warner league where I grew up — that’s a hell of a throw. He’s only gotten better since then, and he’s going to light it up this Sunday on national TV against Virginia Tech.”
Last season, Sellers posted 3,208 total yards — 267.4 per game — and 25 total touchdowns, along with 13 turnovers. He was one of the nation’s best dual-threat quarterbacks in just his first year as a starter, and expectations are even higher heading into Year 2.
The 2026 NFL Draft is on the horizon, but Sellers’ focus is on leading South Carolina to glory first. Whether he can get the job done remains to be seen, but both Yates and Riddick believe his raw talent speaks for itself.
